winter grapefruit.

Will’s younger sister wed her high school sweetheart while we were in South Carolina, and I contributed this humble grapefruit treat to her day-before brunch. It’s super simple and delightfully yummy, for those of you who like grapefruit (and slightly modified from here), so I thought I’d share, in case any of you are looking for something refreshing and easy for the weekend.

  • Slice grapefruits in half, making sure to also slice around the perimeter and between the membranes to make eating them up extra easy.
  • Sprinkle with brown sugar.
  • Bake at 400 in the oven for about 15 minutes, then broil for another minute or two, and sprinkle another dash or two of sugar on top.

The quick bake makes the normally cold treat not only warm, but cider-like: perfect for cold winter mornings (or really, a simple snack at any time of the day).

And though I’m not usually a fan of one-purpose kitchen tools, I was introduced to this grapefruit tool via Will’s mom, and it made cutting up a large batch of one of my favorite fruits such a cinch that I found myself completely justifying owning one.

Meanwhile, B is fighting off a cold and G is basically trying to hibernate through this Boston winter (and probably still recovering from his first flight experience), so I’m off to cuddle with them both…
